Why should I hire an editor?

To gain your reader's trust: An editor puts you in control of what your writing says about you. Devoting care and attention to your writing is the easiest and most immediate way to show your reader the care and attention you devote to everything you do.

To communicate your message effectively: The easier it is for your reader to understand your message, the more likely they are to respond to it. Clarity is the first step toward persuasion, and an editor can help you achieve it.

To save time: Writing takes time. Maybe you've written a good draft or even a great one. But you just don't have the time to see the project through to perfection. An editor can get it there while you move on to your next project.

To save money: Few businesses can justify hiring a full-time editor. This means that the editing of important documents, if it gets done at all, is done by staff members with no training and, more than likely, a long list of other things to do. A professional editing service, however, allows you to have an editor on staff when you need one and only when you need one.

How do I receive your edits?

Most of our editing is done electronically using the Track Changes function of Microsoft Word. When we return your document, you will see our comments in the margin and our proposed changes, in color, on top of the original text. You can review and accept or reject our proposed changes individually or accept them all at once. PDF files can also be edited electronically using a similar process. Of course, if your project requires it, or if you simply prefer it, we can also edit your document by hand and return either the original or a scanned copy to you.

What is your turnaround time?

Turnaround is determined on a case-by-case basis according to the size and scope of your project as well as your deadline and our availability. If you know in advance when your project will be ready for editing, let us know now, and we'll add it to our queue. If you need something yesterday, we'll do everything we can to make it happen.

What do I need to know before we get started?

When you call or email, we will first want to know about the size and nature of your project, the level of editing you think it requires, and any deadlines you may be working under. Then we will want to learn more generally about the goals, audience, and context of the project.

How much do you charge?

We will review your project and provide you with an estimate.

The information you will be editing is confidential and/or proprietary. We need to know that you will not share this information with anyone else.

Your materials and the information they contain will be kept strictly confidential. If you need us to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement, we will be happy to do that, but you have our word with or without one.
