TYPES OF EDITING

In addition to writing, we also provide editing services for a range of industries and media. We can begin working with you at any point in the process and adjust the level of our involvement according to your needs. Our editing work typically falls into one or more of the following four categories:

Content Editing (also called Substantive or Developmental Editing) improves the logic, structure, and precision of your project.
This involves:

- Developing and refining your message

- Aligning the structure of your project with your message

- Ensuring cohesion between the parts of your project and the whole

- Filling gaps that compromise clarity and cutting anything unnecessary

- Tailoring your project to its target audience

Stylistic Editing (also called Line Editing) improves the style and readability of your project.

This involves:

- Maximizing clarity and simplicity at the sentence level

- Eliminating jargon, clichés, and otherwise imprecise or inefficient language

- Ensuring cohesion between sentences and paragraphs

- Maintaining consistency of tone

Copyediting improves the grammar and mechanics of your project.

This involves:

- Correcting errors in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and usage

- Eliminating malapropisms, misused words, and overly repeated words

- Reviewing figures, charts, and tables

- Formatting your project in the appropriate style

Proofreading is the final step.

This involves:

- A final, thorough review of formatting and design elements for correctness and consistency

- A final, thorough review of the text
